News About Evelyn

Becky’s mom, Evelyn, was rushed to hospital at Olathe a couple weeks ago as the nurses at the nursing home were convinced she was having a heart attack. She wasn’t. The hospital ran tests and sent her back.

Thursday they took her back to the hospital on account of severe abdominal pain. She was finally diagnosed with gall stones. Yesterday they removed her gall bladder. We visited her this afternoon and she’s doing well. She’s 79, I think. She had a mastectomy several years ago on account of breast cancer.

The weather was weird today. I stopped to get gas in Lawrence before heading for Olathe. Strong wind blowing big snowflakes, it was blizzard-like. The wind was blowing so hard, though, nothing was sticking to the pavement. Along the highway, a couple miles out of Lawrence, it stopped snowing, still much wind. A few miles later, here was the blizzard again. Then it let up again, started up again. On the way back, it was snowing for awhile, then the sun came out, although it kept snowing. I think it’s quit now. There’s snow on the ground in the yard, but nothing on the street. Good ol’ Kansas weather!

Don’t know when they’ll discharge Evelyn. It was laparoscopic surgery. One of my clients had that after a burst appendix. It’s amazing what they can pull out of your body through such a small hole in the skin!

Jeez, it’s February Already

What happened to January? At this rate, I think I better start thinking about getting Christmas shopping done. But wait, it can’t be February, we haven’t had the Super Bowl yet. I’m not sure, but I think the Super Bowl’s somewhere like around Jan. 22 or something, isn’t it? Another thing making life seem unreal has been the weather. Most of January I didn’t even need my heavy coat. Several days didn’t require any jacket at all. Finally today a cold front came in. Might see some snowflakes tomorrow, but nothing accumulating, they say.

Had an out of body experience last night! Dreamed I heard noises and got out of bed to investigate, there were some bizarre aspects about checking out the kitchen and living room, I was wearing asbestos gloves, light switch wasn’t where it was supposed to be, went back to the bedroom thinking things were sort of strange, wondered if I was dreaming, saw Becky in the bed with a big lump under the covers where I would be sleeping, so I spoke real loud to Becky, “Hey, Becky, would you wake up and see if I’m asleep?” And then I woke up. Yeah, that was me lying in the bed. I checked the clock. It was only 20 minutes since I went to bed. And that was the second dream. The first one was longer! It was about me and Becky getting married, it was only a month since Stephen and Kathie got married, lots of relatives were there, a couple of Muslims came in and went prostrate in the middle of the church so we had to postpone the start of the wedding, but Becky thought it got called off and couldn’t be found when we were ready to start. I found her in a dressing room wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt instead of her wedding dress, sobbing. I think it was right after that I heard some noises in the kitchen.

Becky’s still suffering from the bad cold or whatever hit her a couple weeks ago. Cough and sniffles and draggy. I guess I dodged it. Started taking lots of echinacea and zinc when she started showing symptoms.

This WordPress blog just had another update which I just uploaded a few days ago. I must admit the appearance of the Chappells Blog is way behind some of the “themes” that are available. It’ just a click of a button or two to change the whole layout and appearance of the blog, and some of the available themes are quite nice. I might start changing the theme every once in a while, to keep things interesting. I hate using something somebody else designed, though. But the way time is flying by, I don’t seem to have the time to re-work the design myself.

Well, Becky’s gone off to bed, I’m starting to yawn, and “Booty Call” just came on the TV. Seems like a good time to turn in for the night.
