Need a Blog Entry

I’m just writing because I need a blog entry. Kind of testing out some things. So, don’t pay much attention, if any, to this, because it’s totally vacuous (a word that’s definitely a candidate for my top 10 favorite words).

Okay, that was the test. In between first paragraph and this paragraph, actually. So, now I don’t know why I can post an article on this blog, but when I try to post an article on my attorney blog I get a message telling me “no can do”. Well, that’s not an exact quote, but the meaning is the same.

Okay, so that was a return trip to the other blog (between the previous paragraph and this one), at which I found no difficulty at all in posting an article of similar vacuity (zowie! that’s got to be a top 10er!).

Another Month Flies By

Just dropped by the ol’ blog and saw another month had flown by. More than a month, actually. Seems like there ought to be a lot to report. There was Mother’s Day. Becky got some cards; took her out for dinner the day before; but I’m afraid it wasn’t especially memorable. I got to use Gmail’s new Instant Messenger feature the Friday before Mother’s Day. I was was writing an email to somebody and a window suddenly popped up saying, “Don’t forget Mother’s Day!” I thought it was a pop-up ad, but after a few moments realized it was an IM from Kathie. So we had a nice little IM chat. Thanks, Kathie!
Becky gave notice at work, June 14 (I think) will be her last day at the KU Bookstore. It’s actually deemed “retirement”. Wow.
I’ve been overwhelmed with work at the office. Well, I mean, legal work, my job work. I’ve taken to doing a lot of it at home. Since I rarely meet with clients at the office, there’s not a compelling reason to go downtown to work, other than to pick up mail. At home, I have windows! Woo-hoo! The overwhelmed part comes from too many clients needing too much stuff all at the same time.
I talked to Marjorie today on the phone, and found out that Floye passed away about a month ago, jusy shy of her 95th birthday. I had posted about her birthday a couple of years ago.
Beautiful weather here this weekend. Couldn’t ask for better. I spent yesterday afternoon mowing and doing some car work, so I got to “enjoy” the weather a bit. Today was mostly inside, working. Becky had to work yesterday and today, on account of commencement at KU.
So, another month came and went since the last post. Wish I could tell you about some memorable thing we’ve done in between, but mostly all I can say is we got by.

No Stinking Badges

We got no stinking badges, but we got a stinking air conditioner. Turned it on first time this season and the house immediately filled with odor similar to combination of sewer gas and men’s locker room. :yuck: Turned it off, of course, and opened up the windows to air out the place. Got a service person out the next morning. Without actually taking anything apart to see, he diagnosed some sort of mildew-fungus growth in the coils, and said the only practical cure is to run the A/C and let the condensation on the coils wash the crud off. Also suggested spraying Lysol into the air intake. So, been running the A/C while away at work, and spraying in Lysol. Seems to be slowly getting better. Haven’t tried it today – weather cooled somewhat and we actually needed the furnace. I assume furnace air passes over the same coils, but apparently hot dry air doesn’t pick up the stink. Seems counter-intuitive that mildew-fungus would grow on something with hot dry air blowing on it all winter, but the service guy swears it happens. For want of any more intuitive explanation I’m left having to accept his assessment. It’s apparently a few hundred dollars of labor to get at the coils and remove them; trying to wash them in place would drench the motor and possibly ruin it; apparently costly to remove the motor and get it out of the way. Well, we’ll see where things stand whenever we next run the A/C. I may yet cut an opening in the coil chamber and try something more direct than relying on the cleansing power of condensation.
