Yup, It’s Winter and All
First snow Wednesday – big flakes mixed with rain and blowing almost horizontally. Time to pay the piper for the previous couple weeks of abnormally warm weather. It was quite perfect for quite a while. Hoping for something dry and better than bone-chilling this weekend as I need to change the oil in Becky’s car. Also need to decide about the van. Poor thing sitting out there with dead battery, almost flat tire, rusting away in the driveway. Thing is, once in a while it’s nice to have, like last spring when we rented the tiller for the garden.
At least one spammer has been throwing comments garbage at the blog, so comments are turned off on most older articles.
Yesterday Norton Internet Security decided its firewall would no longer allow smtp (email) to/from my laptop. That took five or six hours to deal with. There’s no manual configuration for firewall settings other than rules that the user has added. Of course, I never added any rules to block email. Finally found a little page on their website with a 54kb download to restore default settings, which took care of it around 2:00 a.m. last night. Good ol’ Norton.
Okay, I’m off to the neurologist for nerve conductivity testing. This is like acupuncture but larger needles, through which electricity is fired and measured, at umpteen body locations. A lot like putting an ohmeter on a circuit. I’ll surely be in quite a zen-like state later today.
A Perfect Wedding
November 5 marked the perfect wedding of Stephen Chappell and Kathie Chan. Becky and I flew out to California November 1. We stayed at Kimberly‘s place until Friday, when we went up to the Doug and Carla Chan Farm for the wedding rehearsal. We stayed at their place Friday and Saturday night, as did Jeffrey and Gahan. Our new inlaws, the Chans, were perfect hosts. I was running a camcorder during the rehearsal and the wedding, and so don’t have very many photos to post. Been working on transferring the 8mm camcorder tape to digital format for a DVD. Later I’ll go through what photos I have and see if some might be suitable to post here. Hmm, might be possible to even do a streaming excerpt from the video! Jeff and Gahan were shooting snapshots like crazy, so I’m sure there are lots of good wedding pics, and they also got some digi-videos we’re looking forward to seeing.
The main thing is, it really was a perfect wedding. Steve and Kathie seem perfect together, and it just carried over to everything about the wedding.

Okay, this is COLD. Been snowing since the sun came up, still snowing, gonna be snowing in the morning, and it’s COLD COLD COLD. It’s at times like this a person takes a gander ’round his environs, takes a sniff of the air (a very short sniff, otherwise it’s like when you chug a slurpee too fast and it feels like a heart attack, only behind your eyeballs), and says, “Thank god for natural gas.”
Well, as they say, if you don’t like the weather in Kansas, just stick around a day. Or something like that. According to the weather persons on every channel, however, we’ll need to stick around a week. At least.
Maybe it’ll still be here on the 18th! Woo-hoo! Nothing like treating guests to the Best of Kansas!
