Midsummer Hots
Just uploaded a couple albums of pics from last week’s California trip: July 2008 Chan’s and July 2008 Dave’s. Returned yesterday to a heat index of 112 degrees. Today was hotter. We spent most of it indoors and still felt beat down. Maybe it was more recovery from the trip than suffery from the heat. Come evening we ventured out for gourmet burgers at Five Guys and, indeed, they were pretty good. Back home Becky noticed an odd shape on the shrub by the steps; was a big moth! It was so still we wondered if it was dead or alive. Gave it a mild poke with a piece of straw and it flew off across the street. Consequently, we believe it was alive.
Mimosa Summer

Mimosa Summer 2008 |
The neighbor’s mimosa trees have grown like crazy thanks to all the rain plus some good ol’ Kansas sunshine in between. They smell great. We can smell them in bed at night, if it’s a night it’s tolerable to have the windows open. Took some pictures which you can peruse if you want by clicking that photo there. These were taken after we helped them cut off a whole lot of branches that were hanging over the fence, practically touching ground from being so laden with blooms. I also ran video of the wind blowing the trees Sunday morning a week back. Mostly the mimosas, but some cottonwood, too. At the moment, it’s too big of a video. Tried uploading to Google Videos and somehow 800MBs turned into two seconds of nothing, despite taking four hours to upload. Will think of something else. It’s a very pleasant video to watch and listen to; our version of the seashore, sort of. You can watch a short segment here.

Did some tinkering to the Chappell Family Website in an effort to make more links more accessible (findable). So, the home page now has links to more Chappell pages on the web. And, the Chappell Photos Portal page now has more links to more photo collections and, hopefully, the links are easier to understand and follow.
It’s pretty incredible how much Chappell stuff is on the web now; and, when I have more time, there’s more to come. As it stands, one could spend hours clicking through myriad pages of Chappell items, both informative and visual. I hope everybody (speaking of family) eventually has (takes) the time to spend some time exploring the Chappells virtual world; maybe even joining in and adding to it.
