Cinnamon – The Next Day
For reassurance to folks who are worrying about the poor puppy, here are some pictures of her today. You can see her head tipped to the right, and in the standing up photo she has that right leg extended out. She tends to fall to the right. I’d guess the world is spinning clockwise in her head. The vet said she may retain the head lilt after she recovers. Makes me think “recovery” may not be that the world stops spinning, but rather that the brain adapts to it with new motor coordination. That would suck, but maybe animals wouldn’t know the difference.

My poor puppy. I’m glad she’s okay. Boy, started to get teared up a little when I read that just now. Hope she continues to not let the spins get her down.
Kathie says:
Awww. Well, when the bed started spinning, they told me to put one hand over my left eye and put my right foot on the floor….well, then the whole room started spinning. Poor Cinnamon. But now that she’s over her shock, she’ll just adapt. Animals are exceptionally resilient; especially when they’ve got a supportive home. Just don’t ask her to spin in any circles. And cheese is probably not the best idea…
John says:
Well, if not cheese, then what? She ate one her doggie biscuits that we use for “treats”, but she won’t touch her regular food.
Kathie says:
The “no cheese” comment came from Stephen…I was just typing. It won’t really hurt her, just don’t over do it.
John says:
I’m becoming more convinced that whatever happened doesn’t heal, the dog just adjusts. Her balance has improved some more, in terms of not falling over so much, but you can tell she’s just learning to compensate. She can trot halfway across the back yard, but veers way off to the right. I got her to chase down the tennis ball – same thing – she went way wide to the right and had to circle back in on it. I think her brain is just going to learn to re-vector her approaches. One other weird thing, the last time I heard her bark was Friday morning, before this happened.
