California Christmas 2003

I finally uploaded some photos of “Christmas in California 2003”:http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/johnatty@sbcglobal.net/album?.dir=/396a. These were all taken with the new Canon digital. For want of practice on my part, the pics of festivities at David and Dolores’ didn’t turn out good enough to publicize. 🙁

WordPress Upgrade

WordPress released its beta version on April 30. After resolving a couple of bugs I took the plunge and uploaded it today. Things seem okay so far. 🙂

If anybody posts an article, they might notice that “save and continue” doesn’t work as expected, and results in a “publish”. The idea with “save and continue” is to enable a preview pane so you could see what your article would look like. This is not a major item for people who would not be adding their own HTML(HyperText Markup Language) tags to their article. Anyhow, if you retrieve the article via the edit page, then “save and continue” works as expected, as does the preview pane.

With this upgrade, when writing an article one can use not only the “quicktags” that are available on the posting screen, but also shorthand codes from “Textile”:http://textism.com/tools/textile/, the “Humane Web Text Generator”. This makes it _very_ easy to have *bold* or -strikethrough- and other text enhancements.

Antiques

Fired up the van (Steve & Kim will grasp the significance of that) and drove it to Ottawa, Kansas Sunday where we picked up a stove, storage cabinet and, most importantly, antique Singer sewing machine from Becky’s mom’s house. This is a foot-powered Singer, weighs a ton, with some very colorful painted decorations of the sort not seen on any kind of consumer goods for decades. The cabinet could use a little restoration, but Becky is quite pleased. Maybe later I can add a picture of it here.

The dandelions were rampant and about a foot high and I would’ve fired up the lawn mower but the splint that holds the handle together (Steve & Kim will know what I’m talking about) broke (again), so I paid the kid next door (Steve & Kim will appreciate the irony) $20 to mow the yard. He earned it. 😉

I’m noticing a couple of bugs in the blog program, so sometime soon I’m going to upgrade several of the files, which hopefully will not result in changes visible to anybody but me, or it might crash the blog for awhile. If so, and if anybody even notices, bear with me and I’ll get it working again sooner or later.
